Check List for Biking
To make your bike more enjoyable, you should consider having the
following things available at each bike session:
- bike - make sure it is in good working order (at the very least,
check the tire pressure before leaving)
- helmet - this is a must have - no helmet, no riding
- water bottle - hydration is key!
- spare tube - flats happen, be ready with a tube that is the
right size for your tires
- id - a photocopy of your driver's license and/or health card,
including
Some "nice to have" things include:
- biking shorts - I happen to think they you look snazzy (some
folks might disagree), but the extra comfort you get is worth
it!
- biking gloves - provide a little bit of padding to reduce the
jarring transferred to your hands - essential if your hands tend to
get numb when biking
- biking jersey - the pockets on the back of these shirts are a
great place to store your spare tubes, snacks, some pocket change,
etc. And they make you look snazzy too!
- glasses or sunglasses - keep the dust out of your eyes - lighter
shaded sunglasses are useful when riding in the evening
- pump - a little pump that fits attaches to your bike frame or
fits into your jersey pocket can rescue you if you get a flat when
you are out on your own
- tire levers - makes getting the tire off easier so you can put
in the new tube
- mini tool set - talk to your favourite bike shop - there are a
number of little tool kits that hold the essential items to do any
emergency repairs
- bike bag - there are differing styles - some fit under your bike
seat, and many are big enough to hold the spare tube, tool set,
money, etc.
- a good quality bike seat - no, your bike will never be as
comfortable as your sofa, but a good seat can make those longer
rides more enjoyable
