June 17, 2008 Hello Triathletes! Congratulations to those who attempted Spin off Spadina! I noticed a few teams made up of JTI ladies... Allison, Lori, Cheryl, Amber, Deb, Kristina & Shyla all competed in Spin as a team. And a HUGE congratulations goes out to Vicky Taylor, Lindsey Taylor and Loren Maclennan - these three ladies did the race themselves - what a fabulous job! It was a perfect day for racing and we all had a great time! With the program officially over, we hope that some of you will continue the triathlon journey! If you love the sport and want to continue training and racing please check out the STCI or STAC websites for all list of all upcoming races as well as more group training options. I am still compiling the list of who did what race. We are now going to include the Bridge City Duathlon as one of the three races. We figured, if you signed up, you should get credit, as unfortunately the weather can't be controlled! As soon as I get that list from the race director, I will do the draw. I will post the winners on the website and will also contact them directly. We also want to take the opportunity to thank Brainsport and the Bike Doctor for their continued support of the Just Tri-it program. It is wonderful to have their support year after year! Tammy, Joanne, Navarra and I also want to thank all the volunteers who came out week after week to help us out with the program! I know what a time commitment it is to volunteer so we thank you all. The program wouldn't be what it is without you guys! Last but not least... please, please take our survey! The link to the survey is here. We are passionate about this program and in order to make it better year after year we need to know what you like and don't like! If you haven't done so already, please take a minute a fill out the survey. We appreciate the feedback. Thanks in advance! Have a fabulous summer ladies and we'll see you on the trails! Krista June 13, 2008 Hello Ladies! Thanks to those who came out to Joe Dog's last night. A good time was had by all! I know there were some lists circulating last night - the lists were for ladies who wanted to consider still meeting for weekly runs and rides. If you weren't able to make it Joe Dog's last night but want to still meet with the group, let me know and I can forward your information on to Jewel and Navarra - thanks gals for organizing us! A HUGE thank you goes out to all of you for making this year's Just Tri-it program another huge success! You should be proud of all you have accomplished! Tammy, Joanne, Navarra, myself and all the other volunteers are extremely lucky to be able to work with such a fabulous bunch of ladies! You gals were a pleasure to work with and you made the Just Tri-it program a success!! About the program... a survey was sent out via e-mail early this week and we want to know what you think! Please, please, please take a minute and respond. It is hard for us to improve the program without feedback from those who have done it! If you didn't get the survey, please check your junk e-mail folder (maybe it went there?)... if you still can't find it, please send me a quick e-mail and I'll sent it to you again. Good luck to those gals doing SPIN! See you out there on Sunday!! And as always, if you have questions or comments just let me know! Krista June 9, 2008 Hello Triathletes! The last week of the program is upon us. We are just about done! The final swim was yesterday and the winner of the Spa Package was Amanda Wood. Congratulations Amanda! Enjoy your prize! Only one more bike left (tonight of course) the meeting location is the Sundown Drive-in. Make sure you all get out for your last ride! The last run leaves from the YWCA on Thursday, and don't forget we have made reservations at Joe Dogs for drinks and appetizers after the run! It would be fabulous if you could all come out and join us. It is a come as you are, so we will all be heading over there in our run gear - if you show up looking nice, you'll have to answer to Joanne! The final race is Spin off Spadina on June 15... yeah for all you ladies who signed up, either as an individual competitor or as a part of a team! If you are not signed up please consider volunteering for the race! I will be looking for all your smiling and cheering faces as I run by!! After Spin off Spadina, we will compile the list of ladies who did 3 or more events and make the draws for the $100 gift certificates. We will contact the winners by e-mail, as well as posting the names here, so stay tuned! We hope you all enjoyed the program! We would love to hear from you about what you liked and what you thought we could do better! If you have something to say about the program, please let us know! Maybe one of you fabulous ladies would like to start a section on the forum for feedback? We are also planning on getting out a survey this week, so you will have the opportunity to tell us what you think about specific questions too. As usual, if you have questions or concerns, let us know. Otherwise we'll see you on Thursday for our last hurrah as Just Tri-it Ladies! Krista & Tammy June 2, 2008 Hello Triathletes!! Great job to you ladies who competed in Moe's on the weekend! You all did awesome! You make us all so proud! Next up - Spin off Spadina... do it as team if you have to... but make sure you're out there! It will be a blast! Hope you had a great ride on Monday! Thursday the run goes as usual from the YWCA... and then Sunday is the last swim... and next Monday is the last bike. It's hard to believe the program is coming to an end! You have all come so far and we are all so happy for all you have accomplished! I have a few t-shirts left over from the Brainsport shopping night (all size small) and some t-shirts from the race (various sizes) so if anyone wants an extra one (or if you didn't get one) get one from me on Thursday night. They are all dated 2008, so it would be good it we could give them out! If you have any questions - just let me know and we'll get them answered - otherwise I'll see all your smiling faces on Thursday! Krista May 30, 2008 Hi Ladies, Fabulous run last night ladies! And I heard the ride on Monday was a huge success! Thanks so much to Glenn and Bruce for coming out and providing us with some tips and guidance... Moe's will be no problem for us now! Just a few things that I need to pass on to you ladies today... There is a Pike Lake Swim planned to prepare you for Spin off Spadina. The swim is Saturday, May 30th at 4:00 pm. Navarra & Trevor are planning on going so there will be familiar faces. Check out the forum for all the information! There is no swim this weekend as we will all be at Moe's! The last swim will take place on June 8, and Tammy will do the draw for the Spa gift package between now and then. Hopefully the gal who wins the spa package will be at the swim on the 8th and can claim her well deserved prize! Remember, if you participated in the Sask Marathon, please let me know as when you do three events (including the Y-Not-Tri, Sask Marathon, Moe's or Spin) your name will be entered to win one of two $100.00 gift certificates from Brainsport. Remember the program goes until June 12 (with drinks planned after the run on the 12th at Joe Dog's), so please keep coming out to the training sessions! See you on Sunday, Krista May 26, 2008 Hi Ladies, A HUGE congratulations to those JTI ladies who ran and walked yesterday in the Saskatchewan Marathon! You did it... even though at times you thought the wind might blow you away! Also a great big thanks goes out to those ladies who volunteered their time to help make the Marathon a success. All the participants (including me!) really appreciated all your efforts! Remember, if you participated in the race, please let me know as when you do three events (including the Y-Not-Tri, Sask Marathon, Moe's or Spin) your name will be entered to win one of two $100.00 gift certificates from Brainsport. I talked to Tammy this morning and she said that there were quite a few ladies at the swim, despite the fact that a large number of you were at the Sask Marathon. That's great news! Keep getting up on Sunday morning... maybe you'll be the lucky winner of the spa gift basket... not to mention that you'll be a force to be reckoned with in the pool!! Tonight is the ride at Lakewood Civic Centre. Navarra will be taking you through the Moe's bike & run course. The Race Director of Moe's (Glenn) will also be there, so he will answer all questions you have about race day! If you are still on the fence about the race, come and hear what he has to say... hopefully he can change your mind!! Have a great ride tonight and we'll see you on Thursday! Krista May 23, 2008 Hi Ladies, Thanks all for the fabulous run last night. And thanks to Shannon for a great information session! I love her message! I got word that Moe's is almost full...only 20 spots left... so if you want to register, please don't delay!! If you don't feel comfortable doing the whole race, get a team together. Check the forum for other JTI ladies looking for a team! It's fun...I promise! There is still a swim this Sunday for those who are not participating or volunteering in the Sask Marathon. And for those who are running/walking good luck too you! I know you are all well prepared and you will do fantastic! I can't wait to cheer you to the finish... oh and if you finish before me... you better cheer loud when I cross the finish line ;-) Monday's bike is at Lakewood Civic Centre... you will ride the course so everyone knows what is going on for Moe's. Even if you aren't doing Moe's please still come to the ride! Last night at the run it was decided that we will have a little wrap-up party on Thursday June 12 after the run. We will head to Joe Dog's at 7:00 for some well earned drinks and appetizers! Mark it on your calendars! Thanks ladies! Have a great weekend and let me know if there are any questions! Krista May 20, 2008 Hello Triathletes!! I hope you all had a fabulous long weekend! Now that we are all rested up it's time to get back into it! Remember - the program is far from over - we have 4 more weeks of training left and a few races too! Races still to come:
We have added a little incentive for those of you who compete in three or more events, either individually or as part of a team. If you compete in three or more events your name will be entered to win one of two $100 gift certificates from Brainsport! So get out there and have some fun staying active!! On another note - all of these races are always looking for volunteers. Please, please if you're not competing, give a few hours your time on a Sunday morning and volunteer! It would be appreciated! If you have questions about volunteering, let me know and I can point you in the right direction. OK now back to the training updates! We'll see you all on Thursday at the YWCA. After the run, Shannon Bews (who incidentally found the Just Tri-it program) will be giving a talk on Motivation. She is a really fantastic public speaker with a great story to tell so be sure to come out! Swimming is back to Sunday, so if you're not participating in the Saskatchewan Marathon make sure you get out for some more great pointers from our fabulous swim coaches. As for biking on Monday, we are meeting at Lakewood Civic Centre and we will be going over the course for Moe's. Even if you aren't doing Moe's, you should come any way! I think that is all for now. Any questions or concerns, please just let me know! Krista May 16, 2008 Some information from the Spin Off Spadina and Moe's organizers:
May 11, 2008 Hi Ladies, Just a quick update on Monday's ONE by ONE Relay that Shannon Loutitt spoke to us about before the run on Thursday. Based on recent decision, it will be first come first serve for the presentation (there were no tickets printed). Shannon recommends that if you are interested in attending you should be there by 10am in order to get a seat. The Presentation is scheduled to begin at 10:30am at Bethlehem High School. Those unable to get seating in gym will have opportunity to view outside gym (glass wall) and will be able to participate in the never-done-before MASS start at 11:30! Would any of you ladies like to represent our awesome group in the relay? Shannon has one leg on the east side at about 2:50pm that is about 1km long. Not only will you get to run and meet Ray and his team but our group will be represented for our incredible contributions to making a difference in the lives of women ONE by ONE. Please e-mail me ASAP and let me know if you are interested! If anyone wants more details, please feel free to let me know! Krista May 10, 2008 Ladies - today was fabulous! It was a great race and you all did fantastic! I hope you had as much fun racing as we had watching you cross the finish line! You made us all so proud, and it is great to see all your hard work and training pay off. Enjoy your well deserved day off tomorrow and we'll see you all on Monday night! Once again... fabulous job! Krista and Tammy May 7, 2008 So... only 3 days until the race! Yeah! As of today we have collected 80 registration forms for the race. A few of you have e-mailed me to let me know you can't participate, thank you for that, I appreciate it! But what about the rest of you!?! If you are planning on trying the "Tri", but haven't yet had a chance to get the registration form handed in, please email ynottri@shaw.ca and let me know! I am finalizing the heats tonight and I need to make sure I have everyone slotted in who wants to try the "tri"! The Pep Rally is on Thursday, so be there to pick up your race packages and have all of your questions answered about the race! I also have a favour to ask... could you all wear the Brainsport Tech shirts that Brian gave us? In the past we have all worn them and got a photo taken of all us! It's just a little way that we can say "thanks" to Brainsport and Brooks for outfitting us! If you don't want to wear the shirt on your run, please bring it and put it on before we take the picture! If for some reason you still don't have a shirt, I will bring them with me to the Pep Rally, so you can get one before we take the photo! Please e-mail us if you have any questions! We do love to hear from you! Krista & Tammy May 6, 2008 Hi Ladies! Only 4 days until the race! Woo hoo! I'm excited! I can't to be there when you all finish your first triathlon! I hope last night went well for you all! At least it gave you all a chance to look at the pool and ride the bike and run portion of the course. If you have questions, please bring them all with you to the pep rally on Thursday night! If you are planning on doing the race, but you still have not submitted the registration form, please, please, please send us an email TODAY and let us know when you plan on handing in the registration form. We need to get started on the heats and lane assignments tonight so we can have the race packages ready for pick up at the pep rally. I think that's it for this week! I'll see you all on Thursday! Krista & Tammy April 29, 2008 Hey Ladies, Is the nice weather finally here?! I hope so! The weather was fabulous for the bike last night... OK so it was a tad windy but the ride wasn't cancelled because of snow so I'm happy! For the ride on Monday May 5th, we will be meeting at the PAC on the University of Saskatchewan campus (the forum has a google map). Tammy and Navarra will be going over the whole Y Not Tri course with you. This includes riding the bike and the run course, checking out the transition area and getting a quick tour of the pool area. This will likely take a little more than the 45 minutes we usually have for a ride on a normal Monday night, so please give yourselves a bit of extra time if you want to make other commitments later that evening. Speaking of the race, have you filled in your registration form yet?! Remember, you have already paid for the race we just need the form filled in and handed to either Tammy or myself. Please have your forms into us by May 4th. This gives us time to get the race packages organized. I will assume that if I don't have a form from you by May 4th that you aren't competing! So fill out those forms!! I had a great time with you ladies at the swim on Sunday! Thanks for putting up with me! Next week the swim is still at the YWCA (despite earlier reports that we would try to get in a swim at the PAC pool, that just didn't work out for our large group) and Tammy and her team will have you do the 200m so you know exactly what to expect on race day!! The run this Thursday is at the YWCA @ 6:15. After the run Kevin Sutton (chiropractor and triathlete) is coming to talk to the group about Stretching and Injury Prevention. This is an area that most of us don't spend enough time thinking about or doing, so please come out and hear what he has to say! While we're talking about the information sessions... if the past is any indication of the future, not a lot of ladies are planning on coming to the sessions and we are struggling to understand why? Do most of you not need the information that is being presented? Would you rather see other topics? We do want your feedback! So please let us what we can do! On that note, you really do need to plan to attend the Pep Rally scheduled for after the run on May 8 (well technically, I think you should come to all them, but I digress!). We will answer all the questions we can that night about the race and give you all the pointers we can possibly think of to make your race day fun and stress-free. So don't ask too many questions of the volunteers, as all the questions will be answered at the Pep Rally! Whew, there was lots of stuff to cover for this week! We only communicate via this website, so please, please if you know of someone who doesn't check this site often, please point them in this direction! We give all pertinent information this way! Thanks again ladies and if you have questions or comments, just let me know! Krista & Tammy April 24, 2008 Hey Ladies, We are planning on still having a run tonight, but since it will likely be colder than it has been in the past, please dress appropriately! Mitts, headbands and layers are all good choices! Right after the run is finished, Lisa from Brainsport will meet us all in the gym to talk about Gear... what to wear, when! Everything from bras to shoes will be covered so please try and come out. If you didn't already pick up a technical running shirt supplied by Brainsport, tonight will be the last night you will be to do so. I will be at the run at 6:00... so please be a few minutes early if you need to pick up a shirt! And remember to bring your completed registration form for the Y Not Tri! Your registration has been paid, but I just need the form signed! Thanks Ladies! See you tonight, April 21, 2008 Hi Ladies, I hope you all a great (restful) weekend! Thankfully we didn't get all the snow they were calling for but unfortunately, since the weather is still not cooperating with us (again!!) we have no choice but to cancel the bike session scheduled for tonight! There was too much chance of frozen roads, and safety is vital. However, keep up with your bike fitness by getting on an exercise bike, take a spin class or hopping on a bike trainer. Navarra will be on her trainer! The run will likely go as planned on Thursday and the YWCA and I will be at the run again at 6 pm with the shirts supplied by Brainsport... so if you didn't get one, Thursday will be your last chance so make sure you make a point of being there at 6 if you are looking to nab a shirt! After the run Lisa from Brainsport will be helping us out by holding an information session on Gear... there will be a lot of good information given out... everything from bras to shoes will be covered so don't miss it!! Swimming will go as planned this week (thank goodness it's inside!!) so remember the workout ideas that Tammy has posted! Print them out and take them when you head to the pool! Tammy will be following variations of these workouts each week as you all progress in the pool. Thanks to Joanne for the great nutrition talk on Thursday night. The handouts were fantastic, with a lot of useful information! Last but not least... if you have already given me your registration form for the Y Not Tri-it on May 10... thank you!! If you haven't please print this form out (click here) and give it to either myself or Tammy, at the run or the swim! You will need to fill this form out before you can participate in the race. The sooner we get these forms back the better! Remember, this is a fun, non-timed event for women only! You have all paid for your race entry fee when you registered for the program, but you still need to fill out a registration form. If you have any questions or concerns about the race, please just ask. We will do our best to get you answers! Have a great week Ladies and we'll see you on Thursday! Tammy & Krista April 18, 2008 Ladies, I have some bad news! The Bridge City Duathlon has been postponed/cancelled due to the impending snow storm. For more information please check out the discussion forum. There is no swimming this Sunday either, as we didn't book the pool because you would all be participating in the Bridge City Duathlon! Sorry Ladies... it looks like this Sunday just turned into a rest day! Stay safe and stay warm and check back often for an update on the Monday night ride! Krista & Tammy April 14, 2008 Hello Ladies! Breaking news... the Y Not Tri-it is officially scheduled for May 10, 2008. This year the race is at the University of Saskatchewan, and consists of a 200m swim, a 5k bike ride and a 2k run/walk. The race is a fun, non-timed event for women only! You have all paid for your race entry fee when you registered for the program, but you still need to fill out a registration form. Please print this form out (click here) and give it to either myself or Tammy, at the run or the swim! You will need to fill this form out before you can participate in the race. The sooner we get these forms back the better! If you have any questions or concerns about the race, please just ask. We will do our best to get you answers! Thanks so much to the staff at the Bike Doctor for the great information sessions on Thursday night. I hope you were all able to attend as there was some valuable information given! Biking is tonight at 6:15 pm, and it will be considerably warmer than it has been in the past weeks so it will be a great night to come out for a ride! Meet at the Meewasin Parking lot (by the warming hut on Spadina Crescent) and Navarra is going to take you through the Bridge City Duathlon course. Speaking of the Bridge City Duathlon, I assume you have all signed up? If not, you should do so! It really is a great first race! Tammy mentioned that a lot of you are keen on getting some workout ideas that you can do on your own in the pool. So here they are! Print these out and take them when you head to the pool for your next workout! Tammy will be following variations of these workouts each week as you all progress in the Pool. This Thursday will be a busy night... we will meet at 6:15 p.m. at the YWCA for our run. If you missed getting at shirt at the Brainsport shopping night, I will have them with me BEFORE the run, and only before the run! After the run we will be busy in the gymnasium, as we have an information session on Nutrition that starts at 7:00 p.m. sharp. Also this week, is the gear swap... thanks to our fabulous Run Leader Joanne for organizing both the gear swap and the Nutrition talk. If you need more information on the gear swap, check out the forum. OK - I think that's it for this week. If I forgot anything, let me know! See all you ladies on Thursday! Krista & Tammy April 8, 2007 Hello Triathletes! Just a couple things on the go this week... Joanne has posted some fabulous Nutrition tips on the discussion forum, so check them out! While we're on the subject of the forums... why aren't you gals using them more? I see a lot of people read the posts but not many are posting! The forums are supposed to be interactive, so get on there and tell us what you think! Again this Thursday we will be meeting at the Nutana Collegiate parking lot before our run. After the run we are heading to the Bike Doctor, where Navarra has arranged information sessions on Bike Maintenance and Gear/Equipment. There will be some very useful information given out, so please don't miss it! The Bike Doctor is having some "door crasher" specials just for us! Yippee for sales!! I heard swimming went great last week! Kudos to all you ladies who set your alarms and got your butt to the pool! If you weren't there, make sure you show up from here on out. Besides the obvious reason that what you learn from the swim coaches is invaluable, Tammy has arranged a little "incentive". Each time you come to the swim you can put your name in a draw for a Spa package from Edgewater Spa! So you'll improve your swim technique and possibly win a spa package it doesn't get much better than that! And last but not least - the bike! There is a change in location for the Bike on Monday, April 14 as well. Because it is the last ride before the Bridge City Duathlon (April 20), Navarra is taking you to ride the course. Please meet at the Meewasin parking lot at 6:15. On race day the parking lot turns into the transition zone! If you haven't signed up for the Bridge City Duathlon yet, you should consider doing so soon. It is a great race and the distances are very doable by all you ladies! So have faith in yourself and sign up you'll be amazed at how much fun you have I promise! If you have any questions or concerns, just let us know! See you all on Thursday! Tammy & Krista April 1, 2008 Ladies, Before we get started on Thursday we wanted to reiterate a few things... The Just Tri It program is for you! The awesome group of volunteers we have assembled will work with you all to help you reach your goals. We'll be honest, we would love it if your goals involved trying some of the great triathlons and/or races our province has to offer (we promise, they are tonnes of fun!!) but if your goal is just to stay active three times a week than that's awesome as well! So when you're out there please remember why YOU joined this program... to get active? become a better swimmer? meet 120 other ladies with similar training goals as yours? become Saskatoon's next great triathlete? ... and as the weeks progress, don't lose sight of that! Can't wait to see you all on Thursday! Tammy & Krista March 31, 2008 Hello Ladies! Yeah!! The Kick-Off is over, which means the program has begun! We are excited about this year's program and are looking forward towards working with you to help you achieve your goals! If you missed the Kick-Off you will need to pick up your registration package at the front desk of the YWCA (the sooner the better please!) and you will also need to email us your preferred swimming time. In regards to the swimming time, the ONLY times left available are 8:008:40 am, 8:409:20 am and 9:2010:00 am. The spots in these time slots will be filled on a first come basis! So please email us your preference soon! So... to recap... our first run is this Thursday - April 3 and we leave at 6:15 pm sharp! We will meet at Nutana Collegiate (411 11th Street East) and run from there. That way we are closer to Brainsport and we can all head there after our run for the shopping night. Brainsport has been a great supporter of the Just Tri It program in the past and this year is no different! Brainsport and Brooks have been good enough to provide us with free technical running shirts for the ladies in the program! The shirts will be given out at the shopping night, so be there!! In addition to the shirts, Brainsport is offering us the following discounts for that night ONLY: 25% off on all Brooks items and 15% off on everything else. On Thursday remember to thank everyone at Brainsport for their continued support we appreciate it! If we've missed anything, please email us! See you all on Thursday! Krista & Tammy March 28, 2008 The registration deadline for the Just Tri-it has passed and we're thrilled to report that we're full! The Kick-Off is now only a few days away, on Sunday at 12:00 in the YWCA gymnasium! It is important that all participants attend this event! We'll be going over all of the program details and answering the many questions you may have about the program. We're excited about the program and can't wait to see you all on Sunday! Tammy & Krista February 11, 2008 Hello Ladies! Are you all getting excited about starting the program? March 30th is fast approaching! As was mentioned in the previous messages, a lot of things will remain the same this year, but there will be some changes! Please be patient with us as we are still trying to finalize all the aspects of the program and the race! We will let you know as soon as we have everything worked out! Don't forget, registration opens to the gals who have already been in the program on February 15 so if you're thinking of registering, don't delay! You can drop off your registration at the YWCA. We can't wait to see you all on March 30th! Krista and Tammy January 15, 2008 Hello Just Tri It Women! 2008 is a new year, and we thought we would give you a new challenge! The 2008 program will look a bit different. We are really trying to gear it to the rigors of the sport of triathlon, so this year will be a bit tougher, a bit more challenging, and we are hoping to test you at the END of the program - yup- the race that you do is at the end this year. It is also longer, to make it more challenging, like a real triathlon. So, that being said, we are asking a bit more from you this year, as triathlon is a tough sport with the three diciplines- we are asking that you be comfortable in the water. You can still use water wings and flutter boards, however, you must be comfortable putting your face and body in the pool. You must also be able to run at least 1 minute, and you must have a working bike. Mountain bikes are fine, just we need a bike in good working order. We recommend that you start doing some form of training now, whether it be swimming, sitting on an exercise bike, or walk/running outside or on a treadmill at least 3x/week right now, as you will be doing this in the program. It is a good way to build up endurance and get yourself ready for the challenge of the program. We are going to treat this program more like a "bootcamp" for triathlon, so, if you are ready for an awesome experience, we are ready for you! Another thing to remember, you register at the YWCA. Once you have registered and paid, you are in the program. You will not be getting a confirmation email, so just know that when you have done the paperwork, you are in! See you soon on the 30th March, Heather Paull, Krista Smith, and Tammy Flemming |
